Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland are the husband and wife duo behind Whitehorse, a Canadian folk rock band. Both of them were singers and songwriters in their own right but have decided to work as a team since 2011. Good news for us because we can now enjoy their perfect harmony. By the way, how cute are they? I especially love this beautiful Emerald Isle song that I’m sharing today. If you enjoy it and would like to listen to a little bit more of their work, you can find a selection of their videos right here. Have a nice one, folks!
October is here with its amazing colors and I would like to celebrate its beauty with an American folk band called Dark Dark Dark. I only recently discovered it through my brother (Hey, we all need a good music pusher!) At my very first listen, I immediately fell in love with the song called Nobody Knows. The piano and voice really fit in with our nostalgic fall season. You should listen to the entire album via bandcamp… you’ll find lots of great harmony and some accordion riffs. Enjoy! -Marie-France

In Quebec city, we have an amazing music festival each July and, this year, I discovered this new dynamic band from Montreal : Groenland. This indie pop group first thought of creating an electronic band but they finally found it too boring so so they decided to add some funny instruments one by one to end up with this more playful first album. They released The Chase in April that includes a tune called Criminals. Totally irresistible ! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! -Marie-France

As you know, here at Baba Souk , we love art, we love design, we love candies and we love life! Since we are the curious type, we also are huge music fans!
Marie-France is one of my talented friends, the kind of gal who is always discovering cool new songs. She lives with music and she has a pretty awesome ear for it too! I thought it would be cool for her to introduce one song per month to kind of set a mood over the Baba blog. We think you might like it just as much as we do and discover great tunes along with us!
So here is our tune for July. Hang on, it’s festive! Press the little play button on the bottom left of the image and dance! –Stephanie
Here is what Marie-France has to say about it:
I made a superb discovery listening to Flavia Coelho for the first time! I want to share one of her songs called Sunshine from her debut album Bossa Muffin. It’s a bit reggae and full of sunshine, so you can smile and dance along!
Flavia Coelho is a Brazilian singer born in Rio de Janeiro who has now settled in France. I really hope she comes up with a second album soon. Until then! Enjoy!
