Meet our new rug, Daisy, the very cute Moroccan-style rugs for girls’ bedrooms. The story behind this cutie is one of trials and errors and lots of resilience!

You see, we’ve been trying for years to make a handmade rug in Morocco that would be duplicable, because yes, we’d love to offer the same rug design to more than one customer! Phewwwww it’s been such a challenge, you guys! I tried and tried and tried again! But failed, I must admit. You see, in Morocco they make amazing handmade rugs, and they even use fabric waste from clothing factories to make them, another reason why I love them so much! But the making of these rugs comes with so many challenges. First off, they’re entirely handmade, there’s no pattern, and so each and every rug is a little different – which is why they’re so cool and unique, BUT oh the challenge for a small business!

Years later, while I was just about to give up on my Baba Souk rug project, I was introduced to a small manufacturer in India making rugs mostly by hand but using machinery to sew them. I began imagining some cute Baba Souk rug designs and tried making some rugs in India. This is where our 3×5 Daisy rug was born. As much as I would have loved to keep all our artisanal work in Morocco, it was just not an option. It’s a small workshop, and I make sure no kids are involved (of course) and that the makers are paid fairly, which is important to us.

I’m very happy with the final product. After testing many samples, we made sure the rugs are stain resistant, water absorbent, and machine washable, making them perfect for everyday life. And especially life with kids! (Trust me, I have two young boys!)

The price is somewhat reasonable, and the quality is great. I made sure they’re made to last because one thing I absolutely hate is cheap disposable products that pollute our planet and make us waste our money. (I’m not a Dollar store girl; in fact, I hate it.) I prefer investing in a piece I love and cherishing it for many years.

It’s of course maybe not as unique and special as a handmade Moroccan rug, but it’s a very great compromise! I heard you when you said you were afraid of white backgrounds, and you were looking for machine washable rugs that would be as cute as real Moroccan rugs. This is it!

For now, in this Moroccan rug style collection that is just starting, you’ll find the Daisy rug, our popular pink kitchen runner, and our now-famous bathmat. It’s just the beginning, and yes, I know, we need something blue up next 😉

I love that it’s super cute in a baby’s room, a girl’s bedroom, but I can also imagine it evolving into an adult bedroom. It’s super versatile, and how you style it can make it fit all ages.
